I work in ceramics to create lighting pieces that are an exploration of space, architecture, minimalism and light. Each piece is individual and might be based on an actual place or a conglomeration of places and ideas. The work has narrative and one is able to imagine what might be happening, has happened or is about to happen in the empty space. Staircases and ladders are often employed as devices to suggest a variety of concepts, usually different to the eye of the individual. The pieces give off an ambient light and are not necessarily seen to be ‘functional’. I also create sculptural pieces along the same themes, as well as a range of prints. I live and work most of the year in Brighton, but also spend time in France where I live with my family and produce ceramics of a more functional nature.
